MRC GOLF, INC. Introduces the KURO KAGE™ Silver TiNi, The Second Generation KURO KAGE™ Silver Wood Series

- MRC GOLF Press Release - August 14, 2013

Hi there,

We hope the summer golf season has been treating you well. We at MRC Golf have certainly enjoyed it, as 2013 has been a banner year for our brand. Through mid-July on tour, our products have scored five Tour victories and captured the driver shaft count 23 times. *Amateurs are benefiting from MRC shafts, as well. At the PGA Merchandise Show in January, we debuted the new ion-plated Diamana™ B-series, our first shaft to use 3G M.D.I. technology featuring DIALEAD™1 and Tough-Qure™ to deliver tour-proven performance and superior stability to players of all abilities. Then this spring, we introduced to serious golfers the KURO KAGE™ Tour Edition with Titanium Nickel (TiNi) wire that was incredibly popular among Tour pros last year as a prototype. It's for players who benefit from a profile that's soft in the middle and balanced by stiff tip and butt sections. And now we're even more excited: In August, we're unveiling another premium KURO KAGE™ product, the Second-Generation KURO KAGE™ Silver shaft featuring TiNi wire that has a softer butt section, but is stiffer in the tip and mid-sections. You'll see more details on it below.

We strongly believe these products will strike a chord with your customers. There's something for every skill level and price point, at both the premium and super-premium levels.

Thank you for your support!

There are two additions to our KURO KAGE™ line this year. The KURO KAGE™ Tour Edition with TiNi wire employs super-premium, highly elastic TiNi wire that stretches and then immediately springs back to its original shape. Placed in the tip section, that "whipping effect" gives the clubhead additional thrust and energy release through impact, creating an explosive kick and a low-spin, penetrating ball flight. It also yields the ideal combination of accuracy and soft feel. This prototype shaft has wowed Tour pros and has been available exclusively through our network of Authorized Dealers since May.

Meanwhile, the Second-Generation KURO KAGE™ Silver Series with TiNi wire will also be released by the end of August. It's ideal for players wanting explosive distance that's reliable and repeatable. The shaft incorporates its predecessor's identical bend profile and the same High Density Prepreg in the lower third of the shaft, to boost consistent performance, stability and feel. This revised version will also incorporate TiNi wire technology into the tip section, much like the KURO KAGE™ Tour Series.

Q. What makes the Diamana™ B-Series different than the original and second-generation Diamana™ Blue Boards?

A. First, the B-Series' materials (stronger DIALEAD™ Pitch Fiber instead of traditional carbon fiber for better energy transfer, and Tough-Qure™ prepreg for superior feel and feedback) help shots go straighter and farther, while feeling better. Secondly, the 3G M.D.I. technology allows our engineers to fine-tune both the bend and torsion profiles, to increase the overall controllability and minimize ovaling. Plus, it gives us precision control over stiffness, stability and feel.

Q. Why is there such a big price difference between the KURO KAGE™ Tour Edition and the other KURO KAGE™ profiles?

A. The KURO KAGE™ Tour Edition uses more-expensive, higher-modulus (40 ton/mm2) materials for improved performance and feel, and is manufactured at the same facility in Japan that makes all Mitsubishi Rayon Tour prototypes.

We've added new iron weights to our KURO KAGE™ Black line: Originally offered in 50 L-flex and 70 A/R/S-flex, we now additionally have 50 A-flex, 60 L/A/R/S-flex, 80 R/S-flex and 90 R/S-flex.

How does MRC make prepreg with TiNi wire in it?
Ibuki: We start with a layer of carbon fiber. On top of that, we lay the TiNi wires followed by another sheet of carbon fiber. The final product is a prepreg sheet that contains TiNi wire.

How long are the TiNi wire segments in the prepreg?
Ibuki: The strands of TiNi wires used in our shafts vary, depending on the shaft series. The KURO KAGE™ Tour Edition contains segments of wire that are approximately 12 inches long, while the Second-Generation KURO KAGE™ Silver contains segments that are approximately 8 inches long.

What performance benefits does the TiNi wire provide?
Ibuki: The TiNi wire's extreme elasticity provides stability, consistency, feel and increased energy release through the hitting zone - benefiting golfers of all skill levels.

Diamana™ B-Series: This "smooth" profile appeals to golfers looking to take power and control to a new level, with maximum energy transfer. This 46-inch wood shaft ($450) comes in flexes of 50 R (55g, 4.3 torque), 50 S (57g, 4.2), 50 X (60g, 4.2), 60 R (62g, 3.8), 60 S (64g, 3.6), 60 X (67g, 3.5), 70 S (74g, 3.0), 70 X (77g, 2.9), 80 S (84g, 2.8) and 80 X (87g, 2.8).

KURO KAGE™ Black Iron: For players of all skill levels seeking stability and versatility that matches the performance characteristics of the KURO KAGE™ Black wood and hybrid shafts, this mid-kick point, 42-inch iron shaft ($60) is offered in flexes of 50 L (53g, 5.0 torque), 50 A (53g, 5.2), 60 L (57g, 5.1), 60 A (60g, 5.0), 60 R (63g, 4.9), 60 S (66g, 4.9), 70 A (73g, 3.5), 70 R (75g, 3.5), 70 S (75g, 3.5), 80 R (80g, 4.1), 80 S (83g, 3.9), 90 R (90g, 3.5) and 90 S (93, 3.5).

KURO KAGE™ Tour Edition: For players who benefit from a shaft profile with stiff tip and butt sections, plus a softer mid-section, these 46-inch wood shafts ($400) come in flexes of 60 S (62g, 3.4 torque), 60 X (65g, 3.6), 70 S (71g, 3.0), 70 X (74g, 3.0) and 70 XX (77g, 3.0). Second-Generation KURO KAGE™ Silver with TiNi wire: For better players, it comes in weights of 60 R/S/X, 70 S/X and 80 X in wood shafts ($300) and 80 R/S/X in hybrid shafts ($100).
